FeedGrowers urged to make themselves heard
Jon Wyss, government affairs analyst for Gebbers Farms, urges tree fruit growers to make their voices heard in the next few months by participating in “Capitol Hill” days hosted by state and national trade associations. Events like the Washington State Horticultural Association’s Tree Fruit Day in Olympia on January 29 and the U.S. Apple Association’s Capitol Hill Day on March 21 bring industry members face-to-face with legislators and help elected officials better understand tree fruit issues.
“We can be a force when it comes to issues like immigration reform,” Wyss said. “We have one chance to make our biggest impression. If you can’t attend these events, then send a staff person.”
USApple’s Capitol Hill Day is open to all members of the apple industry, said Nancy Foster, president and CEO of USApple. “The event has a major impact, bringing the national industry together to speak in a common voice, united on critical issues affecting apple producers,” she said.
