Learning leadership skills

Thank you for including the article titled “Family farms need leadership,” detailing Aaron Clark’s presentation at the Women in Agriculture Conference in your June 2006 issue. The AgForestry Leadership Program could not agree more with the conclusions shared by Mr. Clark. For over 25 years, we have provided the hands-on experiences for Washington State farmers and foresters to learn more about the qualities of leadership and the skills needed to take these qualities and put them into action.

Our graduates learn to grow the very skills and inherent values Clark suggests are keys to success: integrity, good listening skills, seeking out information, and looking to people who might have better ideas. In a nutshell, we believe our leadership program helps our graduates contribute to the success of the family farm.
