FeedNew rules for securing fruit bins on trucks
The Washington State Patrol has begun enforcing new cargo securement rules that were put in place two years ago. Up to July 31 this year, the State Patrol focused on educational outreach.
From August 1 through December 31 this year, warnings will be given when cargoes are not properly secured. Repeat offenders may be fined a minimum of $195. Normal enforcement will begin January 1 next year.
Cargo must be firmly secured to prevent the load from leaking, spilling, blowing off, or falling from the vehicle. The securement system must provide a downward force equivalent to at least 20 percent of the weight of the cargo.
