Gutzwiler joins Research Commission
Kyle Mathison will step down after 21 years on the commission
The Washington State Fruit Commission has appointed Jake Gutzwiler of Wenatchee as its representative on the Washington Tree Fruit Research Commission to succeed Kyle Mathison, who has served on the Research Commission since 1989. Kyle succeeded his father Tom Mathison, who had been on the commission since it formed in 1969.
Gutzwiler earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in horticulture from Washington State University and is quality control supervisor for Stemilt Growers, Inc., Wenatchee. He was appointed for a three-year term beginning in August.
Other members of the Research Commission are: Jim Doornink, Wapato (chair), Tom Butler, Yakima; Dan Flick, Wenatchee; Harold Schell, Chelan; Brent Milne, Entiat; Dennis Hayden, Pasco; Rob Lynch, Yakima; and Jim Koempel, Cashmere.

Jake will be an excellent commissioner, but Kyle's shoes will be hard to fill. Kyle not only greatly values good research, but he has the talent to fire others up about the subject.
