EQIP funds for organic growers
Washington organic growers and those transitioning to organic can apply for financial assistance from the Environmental Quality Incentives Program’s Organic Initiative.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently announced an additional $50 million in funding for the EQIP Organic Initiative, which can cover 75 percent of the cost of implementing organic conservation measures for qualifying growers, or up to 90 percent for those who are new to farming, have limited resources, or are socially disadvantaged.
This is the third year of the Organic Initiative, according to a press release from the Center for Rural Affairs. Last year, $24 million in funding was allocated nationally, with more than $1 million going to farmers in Washington State. The deadline for this year’s applications is May 20.
