Heather Hansen honored for leadership through service

Heather Hansen, executive director of Washington Friends of Farms and Forests since 1997, has received the Women’s Leadership Through Service Award of the Washington State Horticultural Association. She serves on the steering committee of Growers for ESA Transparency (GET), a coalition of growers throughout the western United States committed to improving the consultation process for the Endangered Species Act.
Hansen also manages her own government-relations firm specializing in agricultural, natural resource, and tax issues at the state and federal levels. She serves on the advisory board of the William D. Ruckelshaus Center, which promotes collaborative approaches to policy development and dispute resolution, and is a member of Washington State University’s Ag Kitchen Cabinet. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Washington State University and has been a faculty member at Utah State University and a county extension agent for the University of Arizona. She is a graduate of the Washington Agriculture and Forestry Leadership Program.
Laura Mrachek presented the award during the Hort Association's annual meeting, December 6.
