The Wenatchee Wild hockey team’s head coach John Becanic offered insights into what players like to wear when the Washington Apple Education Foundation deliberated over the team jersey design for a fundraiser game on December 4.
The foundation will receive the proceeds from a special jersey auction, Chuck A Puck contest, and raffle, and a cut from the tickets it sells for the Wild’s game in Wenatchee against Dawson Creek. The game will be on the eve of the Washington State Horticultural Association’s annual meeting in Wenatchee.
The red and black jerseys the foundation selected will feature a special Wild logo incorporating an apple and, at the coach’s suggestion, laces at the neck. “To me, that’s cool,” he said. “Our guys love them.”
Columbia Marketing International is the game sponsor. Jersey sponsors include Crunch Pak, Oneonta Trading Corporation, Chelan Fresh, and Wilbur-Ellis Company.
This will be the fourth annual hockey game to benefit the foundation. The last three raised a total of $27,850 in net profits to support the foundation’s scholarships and other programs. A section of seating has been reserved for tree fruit industry hockey fans. Tickets can be purchased for $15 from the foundation’s Web site.

Maybe Becanic should work on creating goals on the ice rather than hockey fashion.
