Alan Pollard has been appointed chief executive officer of Pipfruit New Zealand, Inc., an organization that represents growers, packers, and exporters of apples and pears in New Zealand.
Pollard is a chartered accountant with experience in management of large law firms. He was, until recently, president of the Canterbury Employers Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand.
Although Pollard has not previously been involved in horticulture, he is accustomed to dealing with government politicians and officials in a highly regulated environment, chair Ian Palmer said in a press release. “His background in law and commerce is what we need, and he has the right personality to establish strong relationships throughout our supply chain.
Pollard succeeds Peter Beaven, who will assume a part-time transitional role as special projects manager when Pollard joins the organization in mid-March.
Pipfruit New Zealand is funded by a levy paid on all fresh fruit exported or sold on the local market.
