FeedTart cherry growers approve federal order amendments
Tart cherry growers approved amendments to the federal marketing order regulating their fruit, which is grown in Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin.
Growers and processors voted in March on amendments recommended by the Cherry Industry Administrative Board.
The amendments are technical in nature.
The term handler was revised to ensure acquisition of diversion certificates was not considered handling. Grower-diverted cherries will not be counted as production in the volume control formula, nor will they be treated as actually harvested cherries.
The vote in favor was overwhelming.
