IDFTA to hold Honeycrisp tour

The International Dwarf Fruit Tree Association will hold a summer tour focusing on the Honeycrisp apple in Wisconsin on June 21-22.

Tour stops include:

  • Sunrise Orchards, a 240-acre family-owned growing, packing, and retail operation at Gays Mills, overlooking the Kickapoo Valley.

  • Doug and Gale Shefelbine's orchard near Holmen, where Doug has been manipulating trees to encourage fruiting.

    Sacia Orchard, one of the largest orchards in west central Wisconsin, with 230 acres, including 32 acres of Honeycrisp.

  • Maiden Rock Apples, near Stockholm, which is a new orchard planted by Herdie Baisden and Carol Wiersma. They have 25 cultivars and sell the fruit at their "apple boutique" retail store in Stockholm.

  • Bridal Rock Orchard, owned by Chuck and Judy Bremer. The orchard is on the bluffs overlooking Lake City.

  • Pepin Heights Orchard, a vertically integrated growing, packing, processing, and brokering operation at Lake City. Pepin Heights has more than 300 acres of orchard (of which 70 acres are Honeycrisp) and sells for more than 40 other Honeycrisp growers.

    The tour costs $250 for IDFTA members. The cost includes bus transportation, lunches, breaks, and Monday evening dinner.
