Michigan apple growers Bob Gregory and Mark Youngquist have been appointed to the Michigan Apple Committee for terms ending in 2015.

Gregory is co-owner of Cherry Bay Orchards northwest of Traverse City, where he and his brother Don have 320 acres of apples and more than 2,000 acres of cherries. Youngquist grows 180 acres of apples on Fruit Ridge north of Grand Rapids.

The Michigan Apple Committee is a quasi-governmental organization, established in 1965, that coordinates market development and sponsors educational activities and research to benefit Michigan’s 900 apple growers.

Appointed by the governor, the new members succeed Brian Putne of Benzonia, and Al Dietrich of Conklin.

The other five members are Scott Lewis, New Era; Tony Blattner, Lowell; Gary Bartley, Watervliet; and Damon Glei, Hillsdale.
