The Northwest cherry season has begun with growers picking early varieties like Early Robin, Chelan and Santina, among others, according to Northwest Cherry Growers.

Small volumes began shipping on June 8, with a total of 412,443 20-pound boxes shipped through June 14.

Although the weather has been wet and cool, there have been no reports of damage yet. More typical June weather is expected to return this weekend.

Northwest Cherry Growers is still estimating a crop of around 23.5 million 20-pound boxes (470 million pounds).
