The second annual Felco East Pruning Competition will be held Jan. 31 in Penn Yan, New York. The event is hosted in partnership with Cornell University’s Viticulture and Enology Program, according to a news release.

The contest will be held at Anthony Road Wine Company at 1020 Anthony Road in Penn Yan from 2 to 5 p.m. The grand prize is a trip to Switzerland to compete in the global contest and visit the Felco factory.

At the inaugural event in February this year, each competitor was assigned eight vines to prune. The vines were all on a four-cane VSP trellis system with two trunks. Before the contest, the vineyard manager instructed the contestants as to how he wanted the vines to be pruned, and each competitor was assigned a number so that judges made their scores based solely on the timing and quality of the pruning.
