PEAR COMMITTEE NOMINATIONS

Pear handlers will elect nominees for positions on the Fresh Pear Committee (FPC) of Marketing Order #927. The committee is responsible for setting the assessment rates for research and promotion and advertising of all pears marketed in the domestic and export markets.
There is one Handler FPC position for the Mid Columbia district to be filled at a nomination meeting at 10 a.m. on Thursday August 12, 2021, via conference call.The conference call dial in information is: 800-326-0013, PIN 7315674#
The Handler Member position is currently held by Ed Weathers, 1st Alternate is Brad Pickering, and 2nd Alternate is Gary Wells. The member and 1st Alternate can’t be re-elected because they have served three of a possible 3 consecutive terms. Devon Wells was nominated as 2nd alternate earlier this season and can serve, as this would be his first term.
All pear handlers are eligible to attend and participate in the respective nominations. The committee encourages women, minorities, and the physically challenged, who qualify as pear growers/handlers, to attend and participate in the nomination proceedings. Names of those elected will be submitted to the Secretary of Agriculture for official appointment to the committee, and will serve for a two-year period.
