The Washington wine industry has opened public comment on its new vineyard sustainability certification program.

Growers and industry representatives have until Oct. 25 to comment about the Washington State Winegrape Certification Standard, according to a news release from the Washington Winegrowers Association. After feedback is processed, the standard is due to be published in January.

The voluntary standard will use a third-party auditor to measure several different categories of sustainable vineyard practices. Participating vineyards and wineries will be able to market wine made using those grapes as certified sustainable.
