The U.S. Department of Agriculture has proposed a change to apple grading standards.

Earlier this week, the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service proposed a rule change that would remove net-like russeting as a factor to determine Extra Fancy, U.S. Fancy and U.S. No. 1 grades for Fuji apples, according to a notice on the federal register. The agency also proposes to remove obsolete references to the location where color standards may be examined and purchased.

The USDA will accept public comments on the proposed changes through July 5. For more information, visit https://www.ams.usda.gov/content/usda-proposes-revisions-us-standards-grades-apples.
